A Tribute to David & Francis Smith
The former Northeast Kingdom Chapter of Trout Unlimited has been reestablished and named after the late David Smith and his son Francis Smith. Both were dedicated anglers and tireless advocates for fisheries in our area throughout their lives. When first active in 1996, the NEK chapter received national recognition for their instrumental work in the removal of dam #11 on the Clyde River in Newport. This achievement helped restore free-flowing sections of the river ensuring suitable spawning habitat for Landlocked Salmon and their safe upriver passage from Lake Memphremagog.

Members of Northeast Kingdom Trout Unlimited, including David and Francis Smith, dedicate countless volunteer hours to this and many other stewardship projects to positively impact the future of our fisheries. By renaming the Chapter after them, we hope to honor their pioneering legacy of coldwater conservation leadership.
